Lower East Side Walkabout


From Pushcarts to Funky Swank the SusanSez LES Walkabout strolls through the streets that were the farms, the neighborhoods crowded with pushcarts and generations of newcomers and are now the home to the trendiest boutiques, clubs and eating establishments.

Our exploration includes sampling the food, checking out the shops and learning the history of this fascinating neighborhood- the gateway to America for generation of immigrants- their first glimpse of life in the USA.

As it constantly reinvents itself the shops and businesses reflect its most recent rebirth- the place for designer boutiques, cozy restaurants, lounges and music venues and unique hotels.

Stops will include but are not limited to historic synagogues, a Buddhist Temple, the Essex Street Market, the best deli in NYC and other food shops that made LES famous as well as the newest additions to the neighborhood.

Tastings will include doughnuts, pickles, salami, penny candy, farmstead cheese, and dumplings and more.

Astoria, Queens Walkabout


Travel around the world in 80 minutes (more or less) as we taste our way along some of the most diverse streets of NYC. Named for one of the richest men in NY’s history Astoria it is a living monument to its immigrant past and present. Today it remains home to pianos, films and TV. This tour is a real international feast.

The Immigrant Experience


Learn a little of this and a little of that as we stroll along east Broadway from Seward Park to Chatham Square. Explore the streets of New York's Chinese and Jewish Immigrants. See one of New York City's oldest burial ground, the Settlement House that transformed many immigrants into U.S. citizens. We will visit several historical synagogues as well as the Church of the Transfiguration, 1st Chinese Presbyterian Church and Sung Tak Buddhist Temple. Other stops will include Mott Street, 5 Points and Canal St. Tour is approximately 2 Hours.

City Island Walkabout


City Island- a New England fishing village in the Bronx is a neighborhood that time seems to have forgotten. Rich in nautical and revolutionary history the island is approximately three quarters of a mile long and really is a walk into the past. We will meander through this quaint enclave of antiques shops, art galleries, sail makers, boat yards and restaurants. Stops will inlcude a sea captains housel Johnny's Reef Restaurant, the Harlem Yacht CLub and the City Island Museum. Meet at 1 PM at Johnny's Reef Restaurant at the south end of the island. Tour is rain or shine.
